This 1/4 oz gold coin is issued in .9999 fine gold, with a face value of $25 and is part of the Royal Australian Mint's Kangaroo series of bullion coins.

Its reverse design is reminiscent of George Kruger Gray's iconic design of the Australian pre-decimal penny featuring a leaping red kangaroo. In the background, a representation of eucalyptus leaves, a eucalyptus flower and gumnuts (typical examples of Australian vegetation. Below left, the seven-pointed Star of Federation of Australia. Below right, the date of issue. Around above, the inscription AUSTRALIA. Around below, the precious metal content: 1/4 oz .9999 Au (one quarter of an ounce of 99.99% gold; Au is abbreviated from the Latin "Aurum" and is used internationally on gold bullion coinage). The rim consists of dots separated by small vertical lines.

The obverse of the coins shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits. In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley). Around the effigy is the monarch's legend: ELIZABETH II · AUSTRALIA · 25 DOLLARS ·. The effigy, legend and face value are in a circle at centre, surrounded by an ornamental border of eucalyptus leaves, eucalyptus flowers and gumnuts (from a Tasmanian Blue Gum).

This coin series started in 2016 - the coins are issued in Brilliant Uncirculated grade and are securely sealed within PAMP’s CertiPAMP™ packaging, identifiable through PAMP’s investment identification security system VERISCAN™ (a system that uses microscopic details within the metal's surface topography to identify registered coins) and authenticated by the Royal Australian Mint. Bullion traders call this packaging "in assay".
