The Perth Mint’s Australian Lunar Series I celebrates the Year of the Goat in 2003, the eighth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Each coin has a fineness of 99.9% pure silver, and is protected in a plastic capsules. The reverse of each coin depicts a image of a mother goat is seen alongside her baby as they stand on a rocky terrain . The Chinese character for ‘Goat’ and the inscription "2 oz 999 Silver" also appear in the design.
